To hear writers talk you’d think writing was a misery, but it is the one place I am most at home with myself. I’ve had the great good fortune to publish two books on American multiethnic literature and culture, both of which focus on questions of religion and gender. I’m also telling myself I’m working on a third, which at the moment exists as a cache of loosely connected essays on the nature and purpose of the humanities in the 21st century. We shall see.
